Feedback Second Round

From the second round of feedback we were told to make sure that there was a clear divide/difference between the scenes outside the book and the scenes inside the book. It was suggested that perhaps a change of style of colouring could help to create that clear divide between reality and the book world so that the viewer knows where they are in the scene. From this feedback we decided on using 2 brushes in order to differentiate between the book scenes and the scenes in the room, we settled upon using the basic brush for the regular scenes and a charcoal brush for the book scenes due to the childish effect that it gave drawings. As a group we came to deciding this because we had been inspired by videgames like Yoshi’s Island and Kirby’s World which have like a crayon effect almost making it seem hand drawn in some places. In addition, we also saw it fit to change the artstyle within the book scenes slightly so that the difference would be further emphasised, this led to some slight character design changes in order to achieve an even more cartoony style.

Another piece of advice that was given to us was to make Jason (the child) the main human in the book so that he is experiencing the helpfulness of the dogs. This actually made a lot of sense and made the animation far more cuter seeing Jason grow out of his fear of dogs through the pages of his nan’s book. It also made our life easier as we did not have to create even more characters for those specific scenes. Yet, since we were using Jason that meant we had to simplify his design a little and alter it in order to fit the artistic style that was going to be used for the pages of the book. Whilst exploring designs we also decided to finalise our chosen colour palette which ended up being autumn colours like brown and red which fit nicely with the yellow touches of Jason’s character design and the yellow that was found in nan’s design also.
